| Scope |
Franklin Science Center was constructed in 1970 and received a partial renovation in 2002
targeted towards HVAC improvements, electric, and classroom finishes. The building interior is
very dated and inconsistent with contemporary pedagogy. This 114,000 GSF building supports
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology Departments, and encompasses teaching and
research laboratories, offices, classrooms, circulation, and building support space. It also
handles up to 4,602 student visits per week.
The renovation includes construction on the ground, first, second, and third floors, plus limited
exterior work on the facades, grade, and the roof. The scope includes civil, landscape,
structure, architecture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology, with
significant demolition and upgrades to the building systems and laboratories.
